Male poker player sparks controversy at WSOP women’s event
October 15, 2021
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) holds a special women-only event every year to encourage more women to play poker and also to provide women with a level playing field for at least one event as poker players male tend to dominate the game.
Event # 22: LADIES No-Limit Hold’em Championship started on October 11 and will end on October 13. Although the WSOP emphasizes that this is a women-only event, it cannot legally prevent men from participating in the event as that would be discrimination.
What the WSOP is doing is establishing a huge buy-in for the women’s event and giving female poker players a 90 percent discount. The repurchase of Event # 22: LADIES No-Limit Hold’em Championship was set at $ 10,000, but ladies could register for only $ 1,000.
The event was well received as more than 640 women registered for the event. There was one exception because a male poker player thought it would be a good idea to show up and play against the ladies. Tom hammers decided to deposit $ 10,000 and attend the women-only event with his wife and daughter-in-law.
His presence at the table was not appreciated by most female poker players and they ended up standing up and clapping when he got caught early. Even though Hammers didn’t end up in the money, he managed to get noticed for playing the women’s event.
Hammers justifies his decision
While you cannot legally prevent a male poker player from playing at a female event, this is generally frowned upon by females and the poker community in general. However, Hammers justified his decision by saying that he had done it to pay more attention to what women are going through and also donate her earnings to a charity that has helped women.
Go play the @wsop ladies event. All profits are donated to women’s charities. Tony Hartmann and my idea. Any donation will be welcome. Who wants the story @kevmath

Hammers didn’t end up in the money, so he won’t be able to donate money to charity. Some in the poker community supported his decision to play the Ladies event and raise money for charity, while others believed he could have just taken the $ 10,000 buy-in and donate it to charity in the first place if he really wanted to make a difference. .
I’m not usually a fan of a man playing at a women’s event, but Tom Hammers (@Therealflugi) is an exception since he made juice @WSOP The $ 10,000 women’s event prize pool and winnings will be donated to a women’s charity.

From the way things turned out, it looks like Hammers just wanted to get some unwanted attention to the table!
